MAYOR URGES PROVINCE FOR SWIFT ACTION TO REPLACE SERVICEONTARIO OFFICE
January 07, 2019
Town of Halton HillsFor Mayor Rick Bonnette 2019 began with a surprise when he learned that the independent operator of the local ServiceOntario office located in Georgetown is closing his doors. “This is not good for our residents but at the same time, I sympathize with the owner for making this difficult business decision,” he said.
It is anticipated that the Province will be issuing a request for proposal for a new ServiceOntario operator but residents should expect a gap in service. “We don’t know the timeline,” said the Mayor, “But I am encouraged that the Province understands the need for the Halton Hills community to have access to its own ServiceOntario office.”
Residents requiring driver license renewals, plates, OHIP cards or other related services after the February 15 close date of the local office will have to look online or visit another ServiceOntario office. The closest sites are in Milton and Brampton.
The Mayor indicated that he will be writing to the Minister of Government and Consumer Services and Ted Arnott, MPP, Wellington-Halton Hills to express his concerns.
