INAUGURAL COUNCIL MEETING

INAUGURAL COUNCIL MEETING

December 04, 2018

Town of Halton Hills
HALTON HILLS, ON – On December 3, the new Halton Hills Town Council was officially sworn in for the next four years. “I may be a returning Mayor but this has not diminished my respect for the position, my commitment to the community and my enthusiasm for the role,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette.

In a 15 minute speech, the Mayor noted that in planning the way forward, it was important to recognize the challenges and successes of years past. He went on to talk about the achievements of the past term, notably an improved ranking in MoneySense magazine widely considered a quality of life indicator. The Mayor noted that it is Council’s job to effectively manage taxpayer’s money but pointed out that municipalities receive only 9% of all the taxes paid, yet own over 60% of the infrastructure.

In recognizing the challenges that lay ahead for Halton Hills, the Mayor noted that continued management of growth – how and where it will occur – remains a priority.

The 11-member Council sees the return of 9 Councillors and the Mayor and the new addition of Wendy Farrow-Reed in Ward 3.
